About the Town of Barnstable:
Barnstable is centrally located about halfway along the biceps of the Cape Cod arm. Cape Cod and Barnstable County are synonymous. As the largest community on Cape Cod and a business destination, the Town is the regional commerce, banking, healthcare, education, government, and transporation hub.
Founded in 1639 the town has a total area of 76.2 sqare miles of which 60.0 square miles of it is land and 16.2 square miles of it is water. It is bordered by Cape Cod Bay on the north, Nantucket Sound on the south, Sandwich and Mashpee on the west and Yarmouth on the east. Barnstable is approximately 70 miles southeast of Boston. They Hyannis area is a great place to start a business as it's Cape Cod's central business/commercial district. With a population of over 46,000 and thousands of tourists visiting each year, Hyannis offers business oweners a great opportunity to sell their products and services. Our daytime population exceeds 56,000 with over 3,900 businesses.

Road Work Notices:
Barnstable Municipal Airport & Hyannis Airport Rotary
On Wednesday, May 9, construction crews will permanently close the rotary entrance to Barnstable Municipal Airport, weather permitting. The airport exit into the rotary will also close for a short period during construction of road work at the rotary and along the stretch of Barnstable Road adjacent to the airport.
In addition, work crews have begun widening the shoulders on Rte. 132 for a new median and curbs between the rotary and a point just past Hinckley Road. The median is intended to prevent eastbound motorists from making hazardous left turns from Rte. 132 onto Hinckley Road, and left turns onto Rte. 132 from Hinckley Road.
Entry to the airport is accessible from Route 28 wetbound before approaching the rotary and from Attucks Lane off of Route 132 and Independence Drive.
Steel Repairs on Sagamore Bridge Through Late May
Travel will be reduced to one lane in either direction. Traffic Control will be in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through mid-late May.
Route 6 Road Work:
EXIT 5 - at Route 149 - work on Route 6 at Exit 5 should be completed by mid May. Work on the roundabout should be completed by June 15th.
Exit 2 & Exit 4 - Installation of wire guardrail in the median (following safety audit of route 6) will be ongoing to Memorial day weekend. Impact - Lane closures will occur from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
EXIT 2 - Sandwich - Ramp and roadway repairs- Work has started and the West Bound Ramp will be CLOSED for approximately 2 weeks: likely to be April 1 - April 14. Detours will be in effect with police control at peak times at Exit 3 detour.
EXIT 6 - Route 132 - Bridge Reconstruction. To allow the placement of the concrete bridge deck on the east and west bound bridges, tomorrow, Tuesday, March 20th , weather permitting, Route 6 will be reduced to one lane in each direction beginning at 8am Eastbound and 9am Westbound.
